Studies on the Pathogenic E. Coli in Korean Infant

Abstract
|
|
|
The author has observed the distribution of E. Coli 0 antigenic type 01 -025 in 120 diarrheal and 125 healthy infants, and the following results were obtained.
1) E. Coli 0 antigenic type 01-025 could be isolated in 77 cases(64.1%) of diarrheal and 90 cases(72.0%) of healthy infants.
2) Of the E. Coli 0 antigenic type 01-025, 08-26, 03-11, and 09-11 cases were predominantly detected in the diarrheal group with 020 type seldom detected, while in the healthy group 025-22, 02-18, 07-10, 010-10, and 018-10 cases were mainly detected with no 019 and 01 type.
3) As to the number of the antigenic types detected in each individual in most cases of both groups, was detected only one strain and in about half of all cases the strains discovered were less than three.
The number of bacteria detected was 1-3 strains in almost all of each individual and in about half of both groups the number was less than that.
4) The E. Coli detected by IMVIC system and biological examination in diarrheal and healthy infant were 986 and 1065 strains respectively and the E. Coli belonged to antigenic type 01-025 were 265(27.5%) and 305 strains(28.6%), occupying 28.1% of total strains examined.
5) The E. Coli antigenic type 01-025 was distributed in Korean infant in variegated and diffuse pattern, though the number detected in each individual was scanty.
6) The E Coli antigenic type 01-025 showed no any specific distribution both in diarrheal and healthy infants, and the author could´t discover the strains which were noticeable as the causative bacteria of the diarrhea.
